KING SOLOMON LODGE No. 8 F&AM PHA

King Solomon Lodge No. 8 was birthed from the consolidation of Sardis Lodge No. 8 and Lincoln Lodge No. 10.  Oral history indicates that the relationship between the two lodges, both located in Lexington, was often strained over the years due to territorial and other issues.  Despite these challenges, whenever times of difficulty would arise, the lodges would always come together and do whatever was necessary for the good of the Order.  Lincoln Lodge No. 10 was created by former members of Sardis Lodge No. 8 and chartered by the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Kentucky in the year 1878.

In the Spring of 1999, after attending a board meeting of the Lexington Masonic Club, Jarold Jackson (then Master of Lincoln Lodge No. 10), shared with then Senior Warden Micheal Carter his idea of consolidating the two lodges.  Both men were in agreement that coming together was in the best interest of promoting Freemasonry in the Central Kentucky area.

Master Jackson contacted Joseph Mitchell, (then Master of Sardis Lodge No.8), to inform him of the idea of consolidation.  Master Mitchell was receptive to the idea and it was agreed to put in before the membership of both lodges for approval.  The proposal receive resounding support and both Masters were directed to proceed with the merger.  One of the final tasks remaining was to determine a name for the consolidated lodge.  It was decided that since Lincoln Lodge No.10 was formed by past member of Sardis Lodge No. 8, it would be fitting to return from whence we came.  The name chosen was “King Solomon,” which held special significance due to the meaning of “Solomon” which is peace.  Peace is what the membership hoped to acheive and peace was obtained through this cooperative effort.

The name Sardis Lodge No. 8 was changed to King Solomon Lodge No. 8 and a new charter was presented by Most Worshipful Grand Master Fred H. Street on December 17, 1999 at a St. John’s Day Celebration held at the Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky.  Today, King Solomon Lodge operating in Fayette County under the auspices of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodges, Jurisdiction of Kentucky, Inc.
